rough sketch of female body which might help the lanterns and vases's curve design
The badge was inspired by Neon signs, lightboxes, Bulb signs and LEd signs from Gods Own Junkyard in Walthamstow Central. These designs include complex patterns and minimalist lines that, to the greatest extent, try to give different emblems to each badge.
It this sketches with the use of colours, representing human races, I tried to show that menopause is universal, no matter you are white, black or ... . All the women will eventually experience it. I have idea of printing the gathered advice through Facebook on the surface but not the whole thing. we can also have subtle decoration, like a relief on the rest of surface, shoeing all you have gained, wisdom, experience, insight,.. .
use the curve of female body to design the form
This pages contain two ways to show the idea of passing knowledge from one woman to another, from one generation to another.
The first one is quite a abstract way; by using some threads, connected from one pot to another, we can demonstrate getting advice from other women in menopausal stage. (Aaron) The second idea however is more literal,. By making the advice into a pattern we can have aesthetic as well as functionality.(Mitra)
When we first look at designing our pots we started by looking at how form and design can show stages in life as well as designs showing unity through the community
Idea 1 is to make a hanging installation piece, made up of the womens' stories, which could be printed on to porcelain tiles. For the women who don't want their stories to be seen, they can be rolled up and kept a secret. Idea 2, is to make a hanging installation made up of lots of flowers, which when you take a step back, they form the shape of a womb. Idea 3 is to make a timeline, from birth to death celebrating women's lives and achievements. Positive side idea of menopause, women are incredibly strong, menstrual for a woman does not mean lost, on behalf of the growth, such as experience, children, family and so on.
Women are like water, soft and delicate, but also have the power, these ideas are mainly around the water and growth as the center, using the cage on behalf of the environment, and flowers are women, women use their own strength to break the cage. I came with 10 ideas, not necessary all good though. The most important ones are the followings: 1. Since woman's ovaries no longer have eggs to produce, I was thinking that we can make the cross section of ovaries in a big size, filled with hundreds of ceramic objects representing eggs in the ovaries. These egg shape ceramics will be decorated with some information about menopause and positive messages, printed on them. So when people take one an egg from an ovary, indicating getting close to menopausal age, they leave one positive message, thanking and appreciating their ovaries for being with them till menopausal age. 2. Making a series of ceramic objects, gradually increasing in size, representing women's timeline. As the size of the object grows, the texture on the glaze also change from completely shiny, to satin, matt, and crackle glaze, which is still looks beautiful and alluring. 3.A wall installation showing the women's timeline with a massive amount of cross section egg shape. In early stages there are so many eggs, but as a woman ages, this number decreases. The idea is to decorate these objects with some prints, giving some info about women sexual organs along with some positive messages about the life after menopause. All in all after sharing my ideas with my group and Emma, we all agreed that they are too literal and the final idea needs to be abstract which doesn't also convey a negative or loss message. |
